Hey,

It's Sergio Pereira here 👋

You probably know me from Twitter. I've been writing about Remote Work there since last year.

This is my newsletter. Here I'll try to add depth to important Remote Work topics, which I can't easily fit in a Twitter thread format.

I've been procrastinating sending this out for a few months, really. But well, here we are. Welcome!

In this first issue, let me tell you why Remote Work is so important to me. It's two reasons really:

  • My income increased 5x, I used to earn around $25k/year working for local companies here in Portugal. When I started working remotely for a US startup, my income became $125k/year for the first time in my life. Truly life changing!
  • My job as a CTO just became easier, since I started interviewing candidates from around the world, instead of competing for the best candidates in my city. I get more applicants, higher quality, and a more diverse team. I love it!

My main goal with writing in public about Remote Work is to empower more people to do the same. On both aspects actually:

  • More tech workers land their dream remote job. On Twitter, I get many comments and DMs from people struggling to land remote jobs. They struggle with finding openings, applying, interviewing, etc. Bottom line is many are still stuck working on local low wage jobs, like I was 8 years ago.
  • More Founders, CTOs and managers to adopt Remote Work in their teams. Many leaders struggle to implement healthy remote work processes, such as asynchronous communication. Some are even returning to the office, and missing out on the huge opportunity of Remote Work.

By sharing my experience openly on Twitter, Medium and in this newsletter, I aim to empower everyone to experience the life changing effect of Remote Work. Just like I did back in 2016 (read the full story).

If you've read this first issue up to this point, thank you so much! Please drop me a reply with the topics you'd like me to write about in the upcoming newsletter issues.

See you next week,

Sergio Pereira,
Startup CTO & Remote Work Lover
